Ruben Amorim arrived at Portman Road with one aim in mind – to prove he is in fact the right man to restore Manchester United’s glory.
The Premier League offered some tasty fixtures during the first weekend after the November international break, but all eyes were firmly on Sunday evening’s clash in Suffolk.
It took less than two minutes for the Red Devils to find the back of the net, inviting a wave of affection for both Amorim and once-starboy Marcus Rashford.
1-0 Manchester United.

It’s simple the closer you play Rashford as close to the opponents goal as possible you get a 35 G/A per season player.

Amad with an absolutely incredible run from wingback and a goal built up from the back exactly like you would’ve drawn it up. Rashford already back in the goals.

Towards the end of the first half Bruno Fernandes and Sam Morsy were brought together in the centre of the pitch to have a word with referee Anthony Taylor. The cloud of confusion was soon dispersed when it became clear that a fire alarm at Stockley Park had affected VAR.
The game continued with no VAR for several minutes, leaving every decision up to Taylor.

There’s been a fire alarm at stockley park and it’s been binned for a bit, the nation rejoices.

Fire alarm at Stockley Park 🤣🤣🤣🤣 screams of something controversial happening now doesn’t it

Thankfully, no controversial decisions were needed as play continued smoothly. However, Omari Hutchinson shook Portman Road ahead of the break, curling a beautiful effort over Noussair Mazraoui and into the corner of the net.
Amorim held his head in his hands as the cameras panned to show the Red Devils’ boss reaction, while the Tractor Boys rejoiced with their equaliser.

Omari Hutchinson, take a bow son 👏🏼

What a goal, Omari Hutchinson. Causing loads of problems to Casemiro and Manchester United since the beginning. Constantly right in his decision making, constantly on the move. He’s having a superb game overall and that goal is just the right reward for Ipswich Town #IPSMUN

Really do like Kieran McKenna. Think in terms of coaching/tactical execution, Ipswich are levels ahead of the other promoted sides. Just hindered by individual quality.

When play resumed, it was Ipswich who were once again the team to watch. Liam Delap caused some serious problems for United, and even came close to etching his own name onto the scoresheet when he flicked an effort towards Andre Onana between the sticks.
The Red Devils goalkeeper was kept busy throughout the evening, stopping confident attempts from Ipswich.
Liam Delap is a problem for every Premier League defence. There’s so much quality in the bottom half of the table this season

Liam Delap, please come home brother. We never should’ve let you go.
— Real Talk Manchester City (@RealTalkMCFC) November 24, 2024
I do like Liam Delap you know. Proper old school. Should have scored mind but I can really see him being a future England main striker
— Omega Ω Luke (@OmegaLuke) November 24, 2024
Liam Delap is a very good young striker. Ran us ragged last week and he’s doing bits against Utd today
— Nabil N17 (@NabilN17er) November 24, 2024
Liam delap might be the best player in world football
— Sean Taylor (@stgtaylor99) November 24, 2024
I don’t think people realise how good Liam Delap is, his striker profile is ridiculous, it’s basically Harry Kane with pace and dribbling.

The opening moments of Amorim’s debut Man Utd game promised success and glory. However as the clock dwindled down, it became apparent that the Portuguese boss does indeed need time to get his players singing from the same hymn sheet.
The Red Devils were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in Suffolk, while Amorim was left hungry for his first win as head coach.
Amorim has the face of a man who’s realised what he has to work with.
