A new clip from Wolf Man has been released, showing off Christopher Abbott’s werewolf transformation in horrifying detail, noting the practical VFX of the movie. The upcoming Wolf Man remake sees Abbott’s Blake on the road in a moving van with his wife, Charlotte (Julia Garner), and their daughter, Ginger (Matilda Firth). However, after they’re attacked by a mysterious creature, they take shelter in a farm, only for Blake to start transforming because of an injury he sustained. The film boasts practical effects for its monster transformation as he slowly becomes the titular antagonist.

Now, Universal Pictures has released a new clip from Wolf Man, showing off Abbott’s Blake as he slowly begins to transform. The video sees him writhing on the ground outside, his bones crunching as his fingers grow longer and his jaw grows wider. He reaches up and grabs his lower jaw, snapping it into place. He then gets up, still looking somewhat human, and stares at the forest ahead, color and sound emphasizing his heightened senses. The clip ends with a teaser of him chasing Charlotte and Ginger in the farm house and woods. Check out the full clip below:

What Wolf Man’s Transformation Clip Means For The Movie’s Monster

The Transformation Probably Isn’t Complete

When the clip begins, it seems Blake has already started to change, with his teeth protruding before the rest of the transformation happens. There’s also a bit of blood on his neck and hand, signaling he already terrorized the rest of Wolf Man‘s characters, and is still in the process of changing. This means the transformation featured in the clip likely isn’t his final form, which could be saved for the movie itself. However, it does offer the clearest look at the monster so far, alongside expectations of how his changes will be handled.

2025’s Wolf Man’s Body Horror Inspiration Should Relieve Worries About The Monster’s New Look

Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man took inspiration from a body horror classic for its main character, and that explains his controversial look.

Director Leigh Whannell previously confirmed Wolf Man pulls inspiration from The Fly for its transformation sequences, meaning Blake will probably be altering his appearance as the movie progresses. His continual morphing into a werewolf will probably happen in different stages, with the clip being one of the later points to his changing. This means the Universal monster movie could end up presenting him with a final form akin to Lon Chaney Jr.’s in 1941’s The Wolf Man.

Whannell also directed 2020’s critically acclaimed The Invisible Man.

Our Take On The Wolf Man’s Transformation Clip

It’s The Perfect Modern Rendition Of The Monster

Because Wolf Man likely hasn’t shown Blake’s full transformation yet, the movie is already proving itself to have the perfect modern adaptation of the monster. His changes being slow is not only reminiscent of The Fly, but they also add a new layer of tragedy to the horror, as Charlotte and Ginger try to escape from someone who used to truly love them. With the clip offering just a taste of what to expect, other sequences of transformation are bound to terrify when the movie comes out on January 17.
