Emilia Pérez, the Spanish language musical comedy by French director Jacques Audiard, has bagged a total of 13 nominations. This sets the new record for the most Oscar nods for a non-English-language film, with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Roma just behind with 10 nominations each.
After Emilia Pérez, the second-highest number of nominations this year went to The Brutalist and Wicked, both receiving 10 nominations each. Next in line are A Complete Unknown and Conclave, with eight nominations. All these movies are contesting for Best Picture along with Anora, Dune: Part Two, I’m Still Here, Nickel Boys, and The Substance.
Emilia Pérez has set another record thanks to its leading lady Karla Sofía Gascón being nominated for Best Actress. She is the first-ever openly transgender artist to receive the prestigious nod.
