Netflix recently added a handful of notable movie titles to their streaming catalog, including two Chris Hemsworth titles that are already trending. As a way to say goodbye to 2024 while welcoming in the new year, the streamer debuted titles such as Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Dune: Part Two. In fact, Netflix also acquired 2023’s highest-grossing movie with Barbie. With a number of massively popular shows returning in 2025, Netflix thrives on recent blockbusters and older movies starring notable names that may have been missed upon initial release.
Chris Hemsworth is certainly no stranger to streaming. While his MCU movie appearances might garner the most popularity, some of the actor’s recent notable releases came on various streaming platforms. Aside from the Extraction sequel debuting on Netflix in 2023, Hemsworth also reprised his role as Thor by voicing the character in What If…? season 2 before doing so again for season 3 in 2024. The year also saw Hemsworth voice Optimus Prime in Transformers One and star as the villain Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which happens to be one of the actor’s movies currently trending on Netflix.
Chris Hemsworth’s In The Heart Of The Sea & Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Are Trending On Netflix
The Movies Debuted Nearly A Decade Apart
In addition to Furiosa, Chris Hemsworth’s 2015 movie In the Heart of the Sea is trending on Netflix. Whereas Furiosa is at the #7 spot, In the Heart of the Sea sits a few places higher at #2 for US viewers. Furiosa, the Mad Max prequel movie, arrived on Netflix on December 31, 2024, as part of a batch of Warner Bros. movies making the jump from Max. In the Heart of the Sea, another WB movie, came to Netflix on January 1, 2025, as part of a new batch of older movies that includes titles like Interstellar, Apollo 13, and Inception.
Chris Hemsworth’s Trending Movies On Netflix Offer Something Very Different
One Of The Trending Movies Was Based On A True Story
The George Miller movie that debuted in theaters seven months ago primarily focuses on Furiosa’s origin story before leading to Mad Max: Fury Road’s timeline. In the prequel, Chris Hemsworth takes on the role of Dementus, the sadistic ruler of Gastown who previously abducted Furiosa as a child. Despite Furiosa‘s underwhelming box office performance, the movie received mostly positive reviews from critics, with praise aimed at Hemsworth’s villainous portrayal. For those not interested in Miller’s Mad Max franchise, Hemsworth’s other trending movie on Netflix offers something drastically different but also features a notable cast.

Look, I Love Chris Hemsworth, But Can We Stop Fan Casting Him In Everything?!
Chris Hemsworth has been a beloved figure in Hollywood since his casting in Thor in 2011, yet he shouldn’t be included in every movie’s fan cast.
Hemsworth is far from a villain within In the Heart of the Sea‘s cast, but he serves as a pivotal figure in the story as Owen Chase, the first mate of the whaling ship Essex. Upon leading a crew in 1820, Chase’s whaling expedition turned into a fight for survival after an attacking sperm whale sank the Essex. The movie, directed by Ron Howard, was based on the true story that inspired Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick. The tale might not have the same appeal as something like Furiosa or an MCU movie, but the Chris Hemsworth movie from 2025 is still worth a watch while available on Netflix.
