While PlayStation Plus is adding several new games to its library for October, including titles like Dead Island 2 and Gris, it’s also been announced that several of the service’s biggest games are leaving in November. Revamped in 2022, at least in part to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, PS Plus offers subscribers a wide variety of games to download and play at no additional cost, with games being added or taken away from the service every month.
As reported by IGN, however, several major titles are leaving PS Plus in November, including games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and four entries in the Kingdom Hearts series, including its most recent mainline game, Kingdom Hearts 3. The full list of the 21 games leaving PS Plus in November is as follows:

PlayStation Plus Is Removing Several Major Games In November

Although PS Plus, and other subscription services like it, regularly cycle games in and out of their libraries, the games that were announced for October don’t have nearly as much prestige or reputation as the major titles announced to be leaving in November, with possibly the most notably added game being the moderately popular Dead Island 2. While there’s still hope for some major titles to be added in November, the loss of games like RDR2, GTA: San Andreas, and Kingdom Hearts might be a big hit to the perceived value of a PS Plus subscription.

As PS Plus changes aren’t announced very far in advance, however, the unknown chance of a game being re-added isn’t something that subscribers can rely on, and in the worst case, the loss of several major games might lead to a notable decrease in subscriptions during the month of November.

While the loss of several major titles might just be a one-off occasion for PS Plus, it could also be part of a larger trend in subscription gaming services. While initially popular, services like PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass seem to be suffering from stagnating growth in more recent years, with a noticeable downtick of major titles being added to either service until well after release (as is the case with Dead Island 2). If more major titles continue to leave these services, they might eventually find themselves in real danger of being retired.
