The Witcher season 4 will cover some dark storylines after the events of season 3, but it can give Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) her best story after wasting her for too long. Netflix’s The Witcher had a strong start in 2019 with its first season, quickly becoming one of the platform’s most popular titles. However, the changes made to the characters and stories, particularly to Yennefer, drew a lot of backlash during season 2. The Witcher season 3 fixed some of those mistakes, but season 4 now faces even bigger challenges.
The Witcher season 4 will be the debut of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia as well as a new Vesemir. In terms of story, season 4 is expected to go on a darker route, mostly with Ciri (Freya Allan), who’s now part of the Rats. Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer are also separated once again, but that will allow them to go on different adventures and face different threats. Why The Witcher Season 4 Can Have A Truly Great Yennefer Story
It’s Finally Time For Yennefer To Shine
Yennefer of Vengerbeg is one of the most powerful sorceresses in the world of The Witcher, as well as one with a difficult past. Season 1 followed Yennefer’s struggles before she was taken to Aretuza, her transformation into a sorceress, her first meeting with Geralt, and her fight alongside her fellow sorceresses and mages to stop the Nilfgaardian army. The Witcher season 2 changed Yennefer’s story from the books and drew a lot of controversy, as, instead of becoming Ciri’s mentor and mother figure, she tried to give the Princess to the Voleth Meir to regain her powers.
The Witcher season 3 fixed the show’s Yennefer’s mistakes by finally giving her her role as Ciri’s “mother”, but that didn’t last for long. The Thanedd Coup forced Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri to part ways again, and while this means they will continue to be separated in season 4, it’s actually good for Yennefer. Due to the events of season 3 and the changes the show made to the source material, what’s next for Yennefer post-Thanedd Coup will also have to change in the Netflix show.

Netflix’s The Witcher has made a couple of changes to Yennefer of Vengerberg, and not all of them have been for the benefit of the character.
At the end of The Witcher season 3, Yennefer begins to form the Lodge of Sorceress, which, in the books is created by Francesca. In the books, Yennefer learns through them of the plans to marry Ciri to Prince Tankred Thyssen of Kovir, which in the show could be changed to Yennefer discovering the White Flame’s plans. Yennefer is also captured and tortured by Vilgerfortz at one point and meets Leo Bonhart, who tells her how he captured and tortured Ciri. Later on, Yennefer and Geralt are captured by the White Flame, who offers them the chance to kill themselves.
However, what Netflix’s The Witcher decides to do with Yennefer’s fate is unclear, given how much it has changed her story already. Despite being a main character, The Witcher has mostly wasted Yennefer, but now that she’s on her own, she can get a better and more complex story with the Lodge of Sorceresses, Vilgefortz, and more.

The Witcher Season 4 Is Facing One Big Challenge
As exciting as Yennefer’s story in The Witcher’s upcoming seasons is looking, there’s still one challenge to overcome. Season 4 will be the debut of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, and it’s unclear if he and Yennefer will cross paths again this season. Supposing they do, even if it happens toward the end of the season, the challenge is Hemsworth’s chemistry with Anya Chalotra. Their connection will be key to Hemsworth’s success as Geralt and that of the show’s final seasons, as Geralt and Yennefer are the main couple.

Set on the Continent where men, monsters, and elves exist together, the characters all have separate journeys, though their destinies bring them into each others’ orbits.
