Netflix’s The Night Agent season 3 casts a Lioness breakout star as a series regular. The conspiracy thriller series that follows FBI agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) is set to return for season 2 on January 23. Adapted from Matthew Quirk’s bestseller of the same name, the series soon became one of the most popular shows on Netflix. Ahead of The Night Agent season 2‘s premiere, the streamer has already renewed the show for a third season.
Meanwhile, Paramount+’s Lioness centers around the CIA’s fight against terrorism and stars Zoe Saldaña in the lead role. The hit series is currently airing season 2, with new episodes being released on Sundays. With an audience approval rate of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and a perfect critics’ score, the highly-rated spy thriller series is recognized for its excellent writing and fantastic cast. The series also features one lesser-known actor rising to stardom as season 2’s “Lioness.”
Genesis Rodriguez Joins The Night Agent As A Series Regular
The Lioness Star Has Been Tapped For Season 3
The Night Agent has cast Genesis Rodriguez as a series regular in season 3, per Deadline. Prior to joining Lioness, Rodriguez starred in The Umbrella Academy, Neon, and The 4:30 Movie, among many others. Production for season 3 will take place in Istanbul later this year before the cast arrives in New York in 2025. Not much detail about the plot is known so far, but the season 1 finale sees Peter finally make it as an active night agent after safeguarding another agent’s family while solving a conspiracy and saving the President.
Part of The Night Agent season 2 is expected to take place internationally, with Peter juggling the training and life as a new night agent. Showrunner and EP Shawn Ryan has previously confirmed that each season of The Night Agent will tell relatively independent stories with new plot lines and characters while maintaining the continuity of the main character.
What This Means For The Night Agent
The Night Agent Season 3 Will Likely Have A Strong Cast
Netflix is wasting no time getting the ball rolling for The Night Agent season 3. Adding the Lioness breakout star amid Rodriguez’s breakout moment is a great advantage for The Night Agent, which shares a lot in common with the Paramount+ series. Rodriguez’s casting adds hype to season 3, which will feature many new faces as well.
With the series rolling out a new plot line every season, Rodriguez’s casting won’t be the only news fans will hear. As one of the first actors being linked to season 3, the season is kicking off pre-production strong ahead of The Night Agent season 2 premiere, which also seems to signal that Netflix has a lot of faith in the future of the series. More details about season 3 could be revealed before the season 2 premiere, though specific plot details will only become clearer once the new season concludes.
