Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for ‘Survivor 47’ Episode 12.Since its premiere back in 2000, Survivor has been known for switching things up each season to keep the game from being too predictable. This season, the reality competition series has traded in the standard final five finale for a final six, and fans are eager to watch the upcoming two-part finale unfold after what has been one of the most exciting seasons of the new era. Survivor 47 has had a number of notable players, ranging from challenge beasts to stealthy strategic threats. The standouts who have managed to outlast the others so far are Genevieve Mushaluk, Rachel LaMont, and Sam Phalen — and after an incredibly eventful 12th episode, these three are now even bigger threats to win the $1,000,000 prize and the title of Sole Survivor.
‘Survivor 47’s “Operation: Italy” Changes the Game
Last week’s episode saw the remaining castaways divided into known threats and underdogs, with the “Underdog Alliance” — consisting of Andy Rueda, Caroline Vidmar, Sue Smey, Teeny Chirichillo, and Rachel — holding the clear majority. After Rachel, who’s been keeping her threat status under wraps, won the immunity necklace, barring Survivor 47’s challenge beast Kyle Ostwald from his fifth individual immunity win, the majority alliance capitalized on the opportunity and sent Kyle to the jury. This week, the remaining known threats, Sam and Genevieve, were the obvious next targets for the Underdog Alliance. But as fans of the show know, things are seldom that simple on Survivor.
In what quickly turned into the most exciting episode of Survivor 47 yet, Sam and Genevieve relied on their early game relationships, an Italian feast, and a fake hidden immunity idol to hatch an ambitious strategic plan aptly named “Operation: Italy.” The plan hinged on convincing Andy, who was previously aligned with Sam, to flip on the Underdog Alliance and showing Teeny, who was previously aligned with Genevieve, a fake hidden immunity idol in the hope that she would tell the majority alliance and convince them to split the vote. Should the plan work, Sam and Genevieve decided they would target Rachel, seeing through her underdog facade.

In yet another twist of events, Rachel managed to pull out her second individual immunity win in a row, saving herself, her Block a Vote advantage, and her secret immunity idol in the process. This left Sam and Genevieve with no choice but to pivot. The known threats changed the target of Operation: Italy to Caroline, successfully flipped the numbers in their favor, and somehow managed to survive yet another tribal council.
With Sam and Genevieve having proved that they’re willing to do whatever it takes to stick around and Rachel moving into the final portion of the game loaded with advantages and an immunity challenge winning streak, it’s clear that these three are the ones to beat. It seems to be a rarity in the new era of Survivor for the most impressive players to make it to the finale — let alone three of them — and fans would love the chance to see Sam, Genevieve, and Rachel duke it out with each other at Final Tribal Council.
