Sausage Party Cast & Character Guide

The Sausage Party cast is star-studded, and thanks to the wide range of celebrity cameos playing foul-mouthed food items Seth Rogen’s animated comedy remains as popular as ever. The raunchy comedy Sausage Party was not what anyone expected, an adult-animated movie about anthropomorphic food in a grocery store that believes that when they are bought, they will go to a better place where everything will be perfect. However, when one food item is returned and knows the truth, it turns the entire store upside down.

The cast of Sausage Party cast includes some of the biggest names in comedy movies. Many of them got their start together in Judd Apatow’s movies and TV shows. What’s more, the raunchy animated movie features many frequent collaborators also worked together on several movies and TV shows both before and after the Sausage Party release in 2016. Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen Plays Frank In Sausage Party

Actor: Seth Rogen enjoyed his breakout role on the TV series Freaks and Geeks and went on to become one of Judd Apatow’s top stars. Before Sausage Party, Rogen appeared in hit movies like Pineapple Express, This is the End, Knocked Up, and Superbad. His career has continued going from strength to strength in the years since, Rogen has appeared in The Fabelmans and several voice roles, such as Lion King, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

Character: Seth Rogen plays Frank in the Sausage Party cast, and was also a producer. Frank is short for frankfurter, and he is in love with a bun, Brenda Bunson, who is displayed next to him in the store in the hot dog aisle. Like several other Sausage Party cast members, Rogen also voices a minor character when a specific joke calls for it, namely Sergeant Pepper, a pepper pot with a British accent that’s a parody of The Beatles due to their album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Kristen Wiig

Kristen Wiig Plays Brenda Bunson In Sausage Party

Actor: Active since 2000, Kristen Wiig is a highly celebrated comedian outside of the Sausage Party cast. Before Sausage Party, Wiig got her big breakout thanks to her role on Saturday Night Live, for which she won four Emmy Awards. This led to big roles in Knocked Up, Bridesmaids, and Ghostbusters. Since Sausage Party, Wiig has appeared in Mother!, Wonder Woman 1984, and as a voice artist in Bless the Harts.

Role: Kristen Wiig’s Sausage Party character is Brenda Bunson, a bun that is positioned next to Frank at the store and his romantic interest. She believes that buns and hot dogs wind up together, but the bun gets to choose her hot dog. Brenda may mostly exist as the love interest in Sausage Party, though she becomes a political activist in the TV spinoff Sausage Party: Foodtopia.

Jonah Hill

Jonah Hill Plays Carl In Sausage Party

Actor: Jonah Hill got his breakout thanks to Judd Apatow, who cast him in several of his career-making comedy movies. Before Sausage Party, he starred in Knocked Up, Superbad, 21 Jump Street, and both The Wolf of Wall Street and Moneyball (the latter two of which earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor), which earned him two Oscar nominations. Jonah Hill has been incredibly active in the years since Sausage Party, appearing in a number of movies including War Dogs, Don’t Look Up, and in 2023 was in the Netflix series You People.

Role: Jonah Hill plays Carl in Sausage Party, one of several Frankfurters (and one who meets a particularly unpleasant end). He is a hot dog who is a friend of Barry and Frank, and he is the most lustful of all the sausages in the store. He is also very protective of Barry, something hilariously brought to life by Jonah Hill.

Bill Hader

Bill Hader Plays Firewater, José Tequila, And El Guaco In Sausage Party

Actor: Much like fellow Sausage Party cast member Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader got his breakout thanks to his role on Saturday Night Live. Before Sausage Party, Hader appeared in Superbad, Paul, and Trainwreck. Since Sausage Party, Hader’s most popular role was in the title role in the HBO series Barry. Hader also appeared in Beau is Afraid in 2023, and has, of course, featured in many movies like Knocked Up alongside other members of the Sausage Party cast,

Role: Like many Sausage Party cast members, Bill Hader has multiple roles in the raunchy animated movie, voicing three characters. Bill Hader plays Firewater, José Tequila, and El Guaco in the Sausage Party cast. Firewater is the leader of the Non-Perishables, Jose Tequila is a minor antagonists who works for Douche (one of the Sausage Party antagonists), and El Guaco is a jar of Guacamole.

Michael Cera as Barry

Michael Cera Plays Barry In Sausage Party

Actor: Michael Cera enjoyed his breakout role as George Michael Bluth in Arrested Development, but he’s perhaps most known for playing the titular lead in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Prior to Sausage Party, Cera starred in movies like Superbad, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Juno, and This is the End. More recently,​​​​​​​ Cera played a memorable part in the Barbie cast as Allan, Tren in Dream Scnario, and Glenn in 2024’s Sacramento.

Role: Michael Cera’s Sausage Party character is Barry.​​​​​​​ Barry is a deformed hot dog who believes in the Great Beyond. This means he believes that everything will be perfect for someone once a customer buys them. Cera returned to play Barry once again in the Sausage Party TV spinoff Sausage Party: Foodtopia, by which point the once-naive hotdog has a taste for human blood.

James Franco as Druggie

James Franco Plays Druggie In Sausage Party

Actor: James Franco’s breakout role came in the TV comedy series Freaks and Geeks alongside Seth Rogen. Before Sausage Party, Franco had huge roles in Spider-Man, Interview, Pineapple Express, Milk, 127 Hours, Spring Breakers, Oz the Great and Powerful, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Franco’s biggest role after Sausage Party came in The Disaster Artist, a biopic about the making of Tommy Wiseau’s controversial movie The Room, though he also had a heavily memed appearance as a cowboy in 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

Role: James Franco joins the cast of Sausage Party as Druggie. He is one of the few main human characters in the movie, an addict who is the first human to learn that food is anthropomorphized. It is through Franco’s character that the sentient food learn they can communicate with human beings as long as the human in question has taken bath salts.

Danny McBride

Danny McBride Plays Honey Mustard In Sausage Party

Actor: Danny McBride had his breakout in 2006 with a movie he co-wrote with The Foot Fist Way. McBride has appeared in many Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow movies prior to Sausage Party, joining them in films such as Pineapple Express and This is the End, in addition to unrelated TV shows like Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals. In more recent years, Danny McBride has been gaining a lot of traction for his role in the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones.

Role: Danny McBride plays Honey Mustard in the Sausage Party cast.​​​​​​​ Honey Mustard is a jar of Bickle’s Honey Mustard purchased, but returned to the store when a customer wanted regular mustard instead. It’s Honey Mustard who breaks the truth about the Great Beyond to the rest of the food in the store, kickstarting the panic that leads to the food uprising.

Craig Robinson as Mr. Grits

Craig Robinson Plays Mr. Grits In Sausage Party

Actor: Craig Robinson’s breakout role came on the American version of The Office, where he played Darryl. However, he also had several notable pre-Sausage Party roles in Pineapple Express, This is the End, and Hot Tub Time Machine. Since Sausage Party,​​​​​​​ Robinson appeared in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and the TV show and the Peacock original comedy series, Killing It. He also voiced roles in The Bad Guys and Dolittle.

Role: Craig Robinson’s Sausage Party character is Mr. Grits.​​​​​​​ He is part of the Non-Perishables in the store who has a grudge against the store’s crackers. It’s a minor part, but one that makes full use of Robinson’s incredibly comedic talents as a voice actor.

Paul Rudd as Darren

Paul Rudd Plays Darren In Sausage Party

Actor: Already a known name before Sausage Party, Rudd enjoyed his breakout in the TVC series Sisters before starring in movies like Clueless, Halloween 6, Romeo + Juliet, Anchorman, and Ant-Man in the MCU. Many viewers also know Paul Rudd from Friends, as he played Phoebe’s eventual husband Miike from 2002-2004. Outside of playing Ant-Man, Rudd’s recent filmography includes starring in the 2021 movie, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and the 2023 animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem​​​​​​.

Role: Paul Rudd cameos in the cast of Sausage Party as Darren. He is one of the human antagonists in the Sausage Party cast. He is the store manager and the food refers to him as the “Dark Lord.” This is because he often throws away expired food, not knowing they are alive.

Nick Kroll

Nick Kroll Plays Douche In Sausage Party

Actor: Sausage Party cast member Nick Kroll got his start in sketch comedy and got his first TV break in the sitcom Caveman. Before Sausage Party, he starred in TV shows like The League, Chidren’s Hospital, and his own Kroll Show. Since Sausage Party,​​​​​​​ Kroll has spent most of his time on the animated series Big Mouth, in which he co-created and delivered a voice role for one of the main characters, Nick.

Actor: David Krumholtz, like the rest of the Sausage Party cast, was already an established screen presence prior to appearing in the raunchy animated comedy. His breakout came as the sarcastic head elf in The Santa Clause, and he also starred in Freaks and Geeks alongside Seth Rogen and James Franco. Krumholtz also starred in Ray, Superbad, Walk Hard, and Hail, Ceasar! One of the biggest roles of his career came after Sausage Party,​​​​​​​ where he starred in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in 2023 as Isidor Isaac Rabi

Role: David Krumholtz’s Sausage Party character is Kareem Abdul Lavash.​​​​​​​ Lavash lives in the Middle Eastern food aisle next to the kosher food section, and the two food types have a long-standing feud. Eventually, he puts aside his differences to enter a romantic relationship with a bagel, Sammy Bagel Jr., and Lavash’s death significantly affects his partner in the spinoff Sausage Party: Foodtopia.

Edward Norton

Edward Norton Plays Sammy Bagel Jr. In Sausage Party

Actor: Edward Norton’s breakout came in the 1996 thriller movie Primal Fear, but he’s perhaps best known for playing the Narrator in Fight Club alongside Brad Pitt’s Tyler Durden. These are far from his only notable roles though, as Norton had starred in Red Dragon, The Italian Job, The Illusionist, The Incredible Hulk, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Bourne Legacy prior to Sausage Party. Norton’s more recent work includes appearing in The French Dispatch in 2021, Glass Onion in 2022, and the cast of Asteroid City in 2023.

Role: Edward Norton joins the cast of Sausage Party as Sammy Bagel Jr. Sammy is a neurotic and whiny, self-righteous bagel who lives in the Middle Eastern food aisle, and he feels Lavash is his enemy. Norton reprised the role in Sausage Party: Foodtopia, in which Sammy becomes addicted to fame and celebrity.

Salma Hayek

Salam Hayek Plays Teresa Del Taco In Sausage Party

Actor: Salma Hayek’s Hollywood breakout came in the 1995 movie Desperado opposite Antonio Banderas. Another cast member with a strong career long before Sausage Party, Hayek appeared in Frida, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Savages, and The Hitman’s Bodyguard. In the years since Sausage Party,​​​​​​​ Hayek joined the MCU as Ajak in Eternals, starred in two movies in The Hitman’s Bodyguard franchise, and the last Magic Mike movie, among other projects.

Role: Salma Hayek plays Teresa del Taco in the Sausage Party cast.​​​​​​​ Teresa is very conflicted in her life, as she believes in the theology of the store, but she knows her destiny is to become filled with meat.

Anders Holm Plays Troy In Sausage Party

Actor: Before Sausage Party, Holm made his name with the sitcom he co-created called Workaholics. He also starred in the NBC series Champions. Since Sausage Party,​​​​​​​ she has starred in Inventing Anna as Jack and in The Muppets Mayhem as JJ.

Role: Anders Holm’s Sausage Party character is Troy.​​​​​​​ He is another talking sausage in the Sausage Party cast and often bullies the other frankfurters, especially Barry. He is one of the food items bought who learns first-hand that the Great Beyond is not what they thought it was.

Scott Diggs Underwood

Scott Underwood Plays Gum And Twink In Sausage Party

Actor: Before Sausage Party, Scott Underwood was a storyboard artist on Ed, Edd n Eddy and Dragons: Race to the Edge. Since Sausage Party, he has also worked on the movies The Addams Family, Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania, and the TV show SpongeBob SquarePants.

Role: Scott Diggs Underwood joins the cast of Sausage Party as Gum and Twink. Gum believes he is the smartest being alive because he was stuck on a scientist’s show for many years. He understands the food’s universe better than anyone.
