Warning: Spoilers For Only Murders In The Building season 4, episode 7

Only Murders In the Building season 4, episode 7 presented the most shocking murder board theory yet. As Mabel, Charles, and Oliver take refuge with Charles’ eccentric sister on Long Island to evade the surveillance cameras in the Arconia, the three actors set to play them in a movie about their podcast continue to work on studying their characters. Joining the Only Murders in the Building season 4 cast, Zack Galifinakis, Eva Longoria, and Eugene Levy craft a murder board of their own, drawing one shocking conclusion–that one killer has remained at large since season 1, changing everything.

The actors realize the recent text messages the crew received, which all read “I’M WATCHING YOU,” mirrored a note stuck to Jan Bellows’ door in season one, when the group discovered that she killed Tim Kono. The group then discerns they wrongly attributed a series of other strange happenings to Jan, not realizing another culprit was on the loose. Knowing that fellow resident Professor Dudenoff was murdered along with Charles’ stunt double Sazz Pataki, the group concludes the current killer they are looking for has been active for far longer than they anticipated, and this whole time, they were the targets themselves.

OMITB Season 4 Suggests Charles, Oliver & Mabel Were Targets Since Season 1

Suddenly, Everyone Is A Suspect

In season 1, the mystery culprit poisoned Oliver’s bulldog, Winnie. Season one’s murderer, Jan, used poison as her weapon of choice, initially poisoning Tim before shooting him and staging his death to look like a suicide. She later poisons Charles after luring him into a relationship to use him for information. Her methods in mind, many wrote off Winnie’s poisoning and the note on Jan’s door as a part of her poison-and-stage method. With Jan in prison, the text messages and hidden cameras are certainly from a different killer, meaning that the entire show can be viewed through a new perspective.

Only Murders In The Building Season 4’s New Character Continues The Show’s Mel Brooks Tribute

Richard Kind’s new character in Only Murders In The Building season 4 stands alongside Short, Lane, and Broderick in paying tribute to Mel Brooks.

Each season, the podcasters find themselves seeking justice for a murder victim in their Manhattan apartment building, the Arconia. This new theory suggests that the whole time they have been podcasting, someone was actually after them. The theory is further supported by Sazz’s death this season, as she was Charles’ stunt double, and was shot in the back of the head, meaning that the intended target was very likely meant to be Charles. Now, everyone in the building is a suspect, including the suspicious Westies.

The new plot twists turn the show’s biggest hunters into prey. As the show is known for its shocking yet plausible plot twists, it is very possible that audiences have not yet been introduced to the mysterious old foes of the three podcasters. While the three continue to make a difference in their community and how their friend, NYPD Detective Williams, investigates murders, it appears that someone has a score of their own left to settle.

The new plot twists turn the show’s biggest hunters into prey.

While journalists and true crime podcasters have historically been prone to harassment from those under investigation, the show will likely have the culprit have a deeply personal vendetta against either or all of Mabel, Charles, or Oliver. While the Westies cashing checks in Dudenoff’s name could implicate them in his murder for his wealth, it would not provide a clear explanation as to why they could have been targeting the podcasters for so many years. Therefore, it is likely someone that truly flew under the radar for quite some time.

Are The Westies Really Killers In OMITB Season 4?

While Eccentric, They Lack The Organization

Earlier this season, it was revealed that the Westies, the group of odd neighbors living in the Arconia’s west tower, are committing a rent control scheme with the help of Professor Dudenoff, who once taught the Brother Sisters (who are adapting the Only Murders In The Building podcast for film) in college. They are told Dudenoff is in Portugal, and he occasionally sends them food and money from there.

Last night, the group were seen cashing checks in Dudenoff’s name at a local bodega. The newest mystery will be if they are clued in on Dudenoff’s death, or if the killer on the run has the Westies fooled into thinking Dudenoff is still alive. Their reason for cashing the checks either exonerates or implicates the Westies in one fell swoop, and viewers will have to wait until next week to learn if they are the stalkers and season 4 killer. This aside, if the Westies are guilty, it would be interesting to learn why the Only Murders In The Building podcast gang has been hunted by their own neighbors for years.
