Once Upon a Time star Colin O’Donoghue addresses the possibility and whether he’d reprise the role of Hook. The popular ABC fantasy drama that ran from October 2011 to May 2018, expanding into comic books, novels, and even a short-lived spinoff. The show’s longevity stems from its ability to blend the real world with something a little more mystical and magical, leading to questions about whether that approach could be applied to another revival or follow-up project.
In an interview on the I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario podcast, O’Donoghue talked about the chances of a Once Upon a Time spinoff. The actor acknowledged that the fantasy drama still had a devoted audience, though he noted that the ultimate decision about a revival would come down to Disney — which owns ABC. In the quote below, O’Donoghue also touches on whether he’d return as Hook:
Colin: I mean, that’s a big question, yeah. I guess I think it’s a that’s a question for the bosses, really, in Disney. I guess, you know, people love it and people still love it. So there’s a world where I think it could exist again.
So, what you’re saying is, you’re not opposed to possibly revisiting it?
Colin: I don’t know if I’d be a part of it, but yeah, maybe.
You would like the opportunity to decide at least.
Colin: Yeah.
What A Revival For Once Upon A Time Would Mean
Key Cast Members Are Open To It
During its run, Once Upon a Time proved successful enough to lead to the Once Upon a Time in Wonderland spinoff. It ran for one season and a total of 13 episodes, providing a twist on Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland novels. It is the most well-known attempt to build something out of Once Upon a Time. And though rumors and speculation continue, a revival or reboot has never been officially announced or reported on.

Part of the reason speculation persists is that key cast members like Ginnifer Goodwin, who played Snow White / Mary Margaret Blanchard, has signaled an openness to returning for a potential follow-up project. Co-creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have since been attached to other series. But part of the charm of OUAT and its magical element is that it would be relatively easy to start up the premise or to redo it if there was enough interest, whether it’s a revival or a reboot with a separate perspective.
Our Take On A OUAT Revival
It Might Take A Little Longer
The cast has only signed off from their roles less than a decade ago. It may be too early to consider bringing back the fantasy drama. But with enough time removed from the Once Upon a Time finale, and perhaps when an anniversary has come around, there will be more momentum set in the direction of reviving what is an inherently rebootable premise.
