Warning: contains spoilers for Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #25The beloved son of the Scarlet Witch, Wiccan, is famous for his incredible magic potential as the Demiurge, which often leaves Wanda’s other son, Speed, forgotten. Thankfully, in Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #25, Marvel is gifting Tommy Maximoff an epic new ability, as the young hero’s mysterious time-altering power emerges.
Speed has a similar power set to his uncle Pietro, and just like Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, Speed’s incredible power has never been able to keep up with his brother Wiccan’s cosmic destiny.
Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #24, from writer Anthony Oliviera with art by Bailie Rosenlund and Kike J. Díaz, sees Shela Sexton, known as Escapade, still in a coma since her run-in with Emplate… until the young Speed is able to wake her up from her slumber with a seemingly secret new time-based ability.

Tommy Maximoff Has A Major Secret He Is Keeping
But does his current self know about it?
Young time-displaced versions of Tommy and Billy have been desperately running away from Mephisto and Blackheart throughout Anthony Oliviera’s various Infinity Comics for months now, and this time they find themselves within the Avengers Academy. While Billy, with his magical powers, is able to help Brielle Brooks fight against Blackheart, Tommy finds himself in Escapade’s hospital room. Telling the comatose Shela that everyone thinks that only Billy is “important” or “powerful,” and that he is just “the other one,” the young hero goes on to say he needs help from Shela. He tells her, “I know you need time, but time I can do,” before requesting she not tell anyone. Then, with the power of only a single touch, Escapade wakes up from her coma fully healed…

Marvel Finally Acknowledges Scarlet Witch’s Other Son is a True Hero
A new Speed-focused Young Avengers story on Marvel Unlimited finally highlights the Scarlet Witch’s other son Tommy as a true hero of the people.
It is still incredibly unclear exactly what Speed’s power is, but it would not be surprising for a speedster to have time-based powers connected to their swiftness, just ask the Flash what happened during DC’s Flashpoint event. While Tommy’s uncle Quicksilver has never displayed any control over time before, their powers are not identical, just like Billy’s powers are not exactly the same as the Scarlet Witch. Speed has always lived in the vast shadow of his brother Wiccan, who is destined to become the godlike “Demiurge” at some point in his life, which makes everyone around Billy give him a certain level of implicit respect. Tommy’s speed has come in handy countless times as Young Avenger and independent hero, but he has never before been seen as a cosmic-level hero, something that may change if these new powers are revealed to the wider heroic community.
Other Marvel Characters Know Speed Is Destined For Greatness
Tommy’s mysterious future is written in the stars
The first hint that Tommy might possess more than just “speed” was in Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #9, which revealed that Tommy had been caring for the ill Master Pandemonium, a former villain who was intricately tied to Speed and Wiccan’s origin story. In the story, a fragment of the M’Kraan Crystal posing as Patriot – originally seen in Young Avengers – attempted to take Tommy, before Pandemonium stopped it. Telling the entity that, “He doesn’t know what he is… he thinks he’s just fast,” also saying he doesn’t know “what he or his brother could do,” hinting that Tommy’s power may be tied directly into Billy’s future as the Demiurge.
With Billy destined to become a great wizard, it was only a matter of time until Marvel gave his brother Tommy a major upgrade as well. If Speed, the underappreciated son of the Scarlet Witch, is capable of controlling time, he may wind up being just as cosmically important to the Marvel mythos as his brother Wiccan.

Scarlet Witch
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Scarlet Witch debuted, along with her twin brother, Quicksilver in X-Men #4 (March 1964). Also known as Wanda Maximoff, she first appears as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, before she eventually became a member of the Avengers. In the comics, she is a mutant who uses chaos magic to alter reality.
Scarlet Witch is played by Elizabeth Olsen in the MCU, having debuted in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #25 from Marvel Comics is available now on the Marvel Unlimited app.
