Stephen King and Mike Flanagan’s 2025 movie continues to receive more praise. Flanagan has adapted multiple King stories and is in the process of adapting more of the acclaimed author’s works as well. King’s 1992 novel Gerald’s Game was adapted by Flanagan in 2017, with the movie’s cast led by Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood. In 2019, Flanagan also helmed a film adaptation of Doctor Sleep, the sequel to King’s iconic horror novel The Shining.
Since 2022, Flanagan has been confirmed to be developing a television series adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower. While there was a Dark Tower movie released in 2017, it was poorly received by critics and general audiences, leading to Flanagan working on developing a more faithful rendition of King’s beloved book series. Flanagan is also developing an eight-episode miniseries adaptation of King’s first published novel, Carrie, for Amazon. While there have been multiple movie adaptations of Carrie, this will be the first time it has been adapted as a television series.
Mike Flanagan And Stephen King’s The Life Of Chuck Is “A Piece Of Art”
It Has Already Won A Prestigious Award
Flanagan’s adaptation of King’s The Life of Chuck is praised by one of its stars. Following its debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, The Life of Chuck‘s reviews have been stellar, with the movie being praised for its heartfelt story and themes despite being a departure from Flanagan and King’s usual collaborations. The strong impact of the movie led to it winning the People’s Choice Award at TIFF, distribution rights being acquired by Neon, and securing a May 30 release date.
The Life of Chuck‘s cast includes Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Karen Gillan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Nick Offerman.
While speaking with ScreenRant during an interview for Unlicensed season 2, The Life of Chuck star Molly C. Quinn expressed her enthusiasm for the film. She emphasized how grateful she was to be included in the movie’s ensemble and discussed how personal the project was to her and to Flanagan. Quinn also shared how satisfied she is to see others connecting with the story and how it is more important and far-reaching than most movies manage to be. Check out Quinn’s comments below:
Oh, man. Well, I can say when Mike called me and asked if I would be a part of of the ensemble, I just immediately said, “Yes.” I was like, “Of course, of course.” The film means a lot to him, it’s near and dear to his heart. And, as a friend, I knew that, so when he called and asked if I’d be a part of it, it was really humbling, because it’s not just a movie. It’s a piece of art, you know, he painted it. With his camera, he and Eben Bolter, they created, to me, one of my favorite films. I’m lucky enough to have gotten to see it. And, obviously, it had the TIFF experience that it did and was the People’s Choice winner. So, I’m so glad that other people are connecting to the movie, because it meant that much, and more, to Mike and to all of us that they got to be a part of it. It’s bigger than us.
The Life Of Chuck Is Poised To Be One Of 2025’s Best Movies
Quinn’s enthusiasm about being part of The Life of Chuck‘s cast, and her emphasis on how personal the story is to Flanagan, makes me even more excited about the movie. It was already one of my most anticipated movies of 2025, especially after the buzz it received at TIFF. Knowing how much The Life of Chuck adaptation meant to the entire creative team makes it poised to be even more special than Flanagan and Stephen King’s past collaborations.
