I Feel A Lot Better About Ghosts Season 4’s Current Hiatus Knowing What’s Coming Up

Although I was sad to see Ghosts season 4 take a few weeks off the air, knowing what the show has planned makes the wait for the CBS sitcom’s return easier. The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are some of the funniest network sitcom characters on TV, so I was excited to see that season 4 of the series would be a longer outing. After the shorter season 3, Ghosts season 4 returned in October for a full-length season 4. However, although Ghosts season 4’s cast of characters included new faces, the sitcom was already on hiatus by November 2024.

Ghosts Season 4 Missed A Perfect Chance To Highlight Alberta’s Power (But Luckily It Didn’t)

After weeks of mockery, Ghosts season 4 missed a perfect chance to prove Alberta’s power is impressive but there was a secret reason for this.

Ghosts season 4’s mid-season hiatus is pretty standard for network sitcoms, and both Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and The Simpsons are taking similar breaks for about the same amount of time. However, the fact that Ghosts season 4 follows a shorter season 3 made this change a little unfortunate. As such, I was excited to see that Ghosts season 4 episode 6’s release date isn’t too far away, and even happier to see how ambitious the show’s future plans are. Beyond returning to screens, Ghosts season 4 promises a major special with big plot developments in the coming weeks.

When Ghosts Season 4, Episode 6 Releases

Ghosts Season 4 Will Return To Screens In Early December

According to CBS, Ghosts season 4, episode 6, “The Primary Source,” will air on December 5. After “The Primary Source,” season 4, episode 7, “Sad Farnsby,” airs on December 12, and the show’s two-part Christmas special “A Very Arondekar Christmas Parts 1 and 2” airs on December 19. Ghosts season 4 will then go on a longer mid-season hiatus, but this won’t be a big problem considering how promising the upcoming special sounds. So far, Ghosts season 4 has brought back Sass’s dream power, reunited Sam with her estranged father, Frank, and introduced Mary Holland’s unhinged Puritan Patience to the mansion’s lineup.

Surprisingly enough, Patience returned to “The dirt” beneath the mansion soon after her first appearance in the series. Her entire arc only lasted three episodes, although this was still enough time for her to seriously jeopardize Sam’s relationship with her father. Fortunately, Sam and her father ironed things out before the episode ended and, by the end of the next episode’s Halloween-centric storyline, Patience had decided that she wanted to retreat back into “The dirt” rather than stay on this sinful earth. This opened up the rest of season 4 to focus on the existing ghosts alongside Sam and Jay.

Ghosts Season 2 Features A Two-Part Christmas Special

Rose McIver's Sam smiles as she sprays perfume in Ghosts

A show going on hiatus after only five episodes is frustrating, and the reality that Ghosts season 4 will be back on hiatus after only four more episodes is also far from ideal. However, this only makes “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1 and Part 2” all the more exciting. Ghosts season 4’s Christmas special could follow in the footsteps of the show’s British predecessor and be the highlight of the outing. Whether it is Ghosts season 4 revealing Hetty’s ghost powers or finally divulging Sass’s backstory, “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1 and Part 2” can be big.

Ghosts season 4 could give viewers a memorable enough Christmas special for the wait between episodes to feel immaterial. Ghosts is based on the BBC sitcom of the same name from 2019, a cult classic that, like many British shows, had very few episodes. There were only six episodes of Ghosts in each of the BBC sitcom’s five seasons, but the show’s later outings ended with a memorably ambitious Christmas special. Ghosts can do the same thing with “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1 and Part 2,” offering a special that fleshes out the lives of the main characters.

What To Expect From Ghosts’ Christmas Episode & Why I’m So Excited For It

Ghosts Season 4’s Christmas Special Finally Introduces Jay’s Family

Ghosts season 4’s Christmas special will introduce Jay’s parents years after the show first brought his sister, Bela, to the Woodsmen B&B. Not a lot else is known about the special’s storyline, although it is clear that Jay will be the main character of Ghosts season 4’s Christmas special judging by its title alone. Ghosts season 4 episode 4 already used Jay as a conduit for Trevor’s attempts to impress his remote coworkers in person, but Sam’s husband was mostly a prop in this plan. “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1 and Part 2” can go further.

In an interview with
TVLine
, Jay’s actor revealed that he would gain the ability to see ghosts in season 4.

Jay has consistently been used as a human tool by the mansion’s inhabitants, since Sam can communicate their demands to him but he can’t see or hear them. That could change soon since, in an interview with TVLine, his actor revealed that Jay would gain the ability to see ghosts himself in season 4. It is not clear whether this will happen during “A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1 and Part 2,” but this would make Jay’s family reunion comically difficult in Ghosts season 4.
