Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven includes over 30 classes. The remake uses the same systems as the 1993 original. This includes a generational timeline that sees characters retire, age, and die as years pass. This results in many different party members coming in and out as you progress. This makes it important to replace departing characters and hire new ones. You also shouldn’t get attached to anyone’s name, as they could perish or call it quits.

Aside from the first Emperor, Gerard, every other class consists of eight listed characters. During the story of Romancing SaGa 2, you will meet the first “representative” of that class. But, if they die or retire, their successor will soon arrive. They are mostly the same but might have mastered different magic. If you expend all eight candidates, the original rep will return, and the cycle will continue. So, if you are dead set on getting a specific named party member, you may need to purposely kill the others.

You Begin With Some Recruited Professions

When beginning Romancing SaGa 2, players will play as Leon for a short tutorial section. However, the real protagonist is Gerard, who serves as the first Emperor. If you successfully make it through the first generation, the timeline will jump 50 years, and you will have a brand-new Emperor of either gender and various inherited combat prophecies. But, if an Emperor dies, you can pick a character to take over the class, bringing in their existing proficiencies.

YouTuber Genesis VII went into detail about the generation and inheritance systems. After Gerard left the position, they picked Crow the Vagabond to be the new main character. They took on the title of Emperor but still had skills learned as a Vagabond.

Gerard starts with nine wards, representing the starting classes. Initially, you do not need to do anything to enlist them as they are already loyal. However, if your first representative dies or ages, you must search around Avalon Castle’s First Floor to hire their successor. If your entire party wipes in battle, you will gain a random assortment of successors, including classes you haven’t even unlocked yet. Still, most every character can use Unit Attacks, a series staple that is even in SaGa Emerald: Beyond.

Throughout your quest in Romancing SaGa 2, you will meet new characters representing a potential class. Most will join as long as you complete their associated quest, including upgrading Avalon City and Castle. Because the game can be rather non-linear, it is up to you to decide when you are ready to take on these challenges.
