Fiona Shaw, who is best known for playing the grouchy Aunt Petunia in the original film series, shares her reaction to the Harry Potter television reboot. HBO is working on adapting J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series into a multi-season TV series. The upcoming Harry Potter show will be based on the same seven books as the original movies, telling the same story, albeit on a deeper level, with a new cast. Shaw, now 66, tells People how she feels about the Harry Potter reboot while promoting Bad Sisters season 2. The actor jokes “How dare you!” in reaction to the news, while sending her best wishes. I wish them well. I mean, can stories be retold? They must be retold over time. It seems to me no time [has passed] since we told it, but maybe it’s [for] a whole new generation.
The Harry Potter Movies Are Still Relevant 20 Years Later
Shaw’s comments indicate she was genuinely surprised when hearing about the television reboot of the beloved franchise, which is likely to arrive in 2026. Her comments also suggest that she holds a high regard for the original film series, which speaks about its timelessness and relevance. The last and seventh Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows: Part 2, came out in 2011, which is only just over a decade ago, but many fans are still rewatching and revisiting the film series.
The highly-rated original Harry Potter movies was extremely well-made. It has arguably the perfect casting for every J.K. Rowling character, including the decision to cast Shaw as Aunt Petunia.
