New footage has been released for Alien: Earth, hinting at some details for the series. Alien: Earth is an upcoming TV series set in the Alien franchise universe. While the plot for the movie remains hidden, it is said to be set three decades before the events of Scott’s 1979 film Alien. The show is set to premiere in 2025, but does not yet have a release date. Alien: Earth features a leading cast including Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, David Rysdahl, Kit Young, Sandra Yi, Samuel Blenkin, and Adarsh Gourav.

Within a hype trailer for Disney+‘s 2025 slate, new footage has been released for Alien: Earth.

The trailer included a look at several series, including Andor season 2, The Bear season 4, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, and the upcoming Dan Fogelman series Paradise. The Alien: Earth segment opens with an aerial shot of some mountains. A voiceover mentions “this ship collected specimens from far away moon” as clips show images of a new space-traveling crew as well as a brief glimpse of the Xenomorph.

What This Means For Alien: Earth

In a key shot in the Alien: Earth footage, an image of Earth from space is seen, as the camera then cuts to the planet being reflected on the shine of a Xenomorph’s head. This suggests that the opening shots of the footage, which take place on Earth, will be largely set on Earth itself, and specifically in some mountainous region. There still appears to be a spacecraft involved, and Earth is seen from space in a shot, so the sci-fi series is still not entirely Earthbound.

Alien: Earth is set to take the franchise in never-before-seen directions, but how does the new TV series fit into the wider narrative?

Showing Earth does give a sense of what the plot of Alien: Earth may be, however. The voiceover mentions that “this ship collected specimens from far away moon.” Perhaps, then, the ship shown in the water in the Alien: Earth sneak peek has brought back some alien lifeforms to the astronauts’ home planet. As a result, the Xenomorph could make an appearance on Earth if the mission went wrong. The series could also fluctuate between the “far away moon” and Earth.

Alien: Earth Looks Promising

The most promising aspect of the Alien: Earth footage is the look at the production quality. While a prequel series set years before Alien, the style of Alien: Earth‘s ship interior seems to be similar to that of the sci-fi film, and of equal quality to movies like Alien: Romulus. The opening aerial shot also shows the beauty of some of Alien: Earth‘s physical locations. If the series can pull it off plot-wise, Alien: Romulus could be a great show both narratively and cinematically.
