Warning: Spoilers ahead for Jack Black’s Dear Santa movie, plus mentions of a child’s death.Dear Santa‘s final scene includes a shocking turnaround for the Paramount+ Christmas movie, but it also provides the perfect setup for a sequel to be made. As it stands, the Dear Santa cast and crew haven’t been recalled to begin production on a follow-up, but if the movie performs well enough over the holidays, continuing the story remains a real possibility. Dear Santa‘s ending quite clearly teases the desire to make a sequel, and the perfect storyline already exists. So, if Dear Santa 2 receives the green light, penning the script shouldn’t be too big of a task.
Although Robert Timothy Smith’s Liam Turner initially believes Jack Black’s Asmodeus to be the movie’s titular character, Santa Claus himself doesn’t actually show up, nor is he even confirmed to exist within the context of the story. However, it would be reasonable to assume that the jolly folklore character is also real in Dear Santa canon. If he is, then the movie’s big, last-minute twist can lead seamlessly into a second movie.
Liam’s “Lie” About His Dead Brother Could Land Him On The Naughty List In Dear Santa 2
Santa could wrongly interpret Liam’s claims about his brother being dead
Santa’s existence in the world of Dear Santa would mean a relatively simple character introduction. Bringing him in for a sequel means all the writers would need to do is use the version of Santa Claus that exists in popular culture. That doesn’t just stop at his traditional physical appearance, but also all the lore that has developed through the years, with the most relevant to a potential sequel being the Naughty and Nice Lists. With the Lists being so well-known in the festive zeitgeist, Dear Santa 2 wouldn’t need to spend time explaining to the audience how they work.

Dear Santa’s Heartwarming Ending Completely Ignores The Jack Black Movie’s Own Message
Jack Black’s Dear Santa character pulls off the seemingly impossible at the end of the movie, forgetting one of the story’s biggest wish rules.
Although Liam would certainly belong on the Nice List, the matter of his brother being brought back from the dead makes it seem as though he was lying to Gibby (Jaden Carson Baker) when he told his friend about Spencer passing away months before the events of the movie. By extension, Gibby telling Emma (Kai Cech) about Spencer’s now-reversed death means the once-lie has been spread even further. Such a “lie” would surely be enough for Santa to put Liam on the Naughty List, as it appears as though Smith’s character has spun a very dark untruth.
Liam & Santa Would Need To Find Asmodeus To Prove Liam Is Telling The Truth
The adventures of Liam & Santa could be central to a Dear Santa sequel
Asmodeus’ wish-based powers in Dear Santa are what allow Jack Black to resurrect Spencer (Leo Easton Kelly), despite the demon being banished from Hell near the end of the movie by Ben Stiller’s real Satan. Asmodeus’ fate at the end of the movie is unclear, so it’s unknown where he goes after changing history to prevent Spencer’s death. So, finding Black’s character would be essential as evidence that Liam wasn’t actually lying about his younger brother dying.
It’s also possible that Spencer could join them on the trip, but asking a young character to seek out the being who brought him back from the dead could quickly get quite dark.
When Santa interacts with Liam regarding Smith’s character’s place on the Naughty List, the duo may go on a joint adventure to track Asmodeus down and prove Liam right. Their quest could take them through all manner of fantastical realities that confirm the existence of other characters like the Easter Bunny, Cupid, and more figures associated with various holidays. It’s also possible that Spencer could join them on the trip, but asking a young character to seek out the being who brought him back from the dead could quickly get quite dark.
Dear Santa 2 Would Also Need To Let Emma In On Liam’s Secret
Emma will feel very deceived when she discovers Spencer is alive
Gibby is Dear Santa‘s only human character who Liam tells about Asmodeus and the wishes he’s granted as a result of their meeting. Emma is affected by Asmodeus’ magic, but she isn’t actually aware that demons exist. Similarly, she’s probably also approaching the age when kids start to stop believing in Santa. Therefore, she’s very unlikely to believe Liam when he tries to explain what has happened, and that he wasn’t lying when he told Gibby that Spencer did actually die.

Dear Santa Star Is Quietly Having A Huge December Thanks To New Disney+ Star Wars Show With 96% On Rotten Tomatoes
Dear Santa isn’t the only December streaming hit for one of the Christmas movie’s stars, as they can also currently be viewed in another project.
So, just as Santa will need to be convinced that Liam isn’t lying about Spencer’s death, so will Emma. In fact, Emma feeling deceived is likely to be one of the biggest plots heading into a potential sequel, as this was the biggest cliffhanger at the end of the first movie that teased the need for a sequel. Leaving her in the dark in Dear Santa 2 wouldn’t make any sense, as it would effectively ignore the most prominent tease of a second movie.

Due to a mix-up, young Liam, a dyslexic 6th grader, sends a letter to Satan instead of Santa, leading Satan to appear at his door, delighted by his first-ever fan letter and interested in acquiring a portion of Liam’s soul.
