‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 Has Cast Another Pivotal Role in Benedict and Sophie’s Romance

Dearest gentle reader, this author has some news you will be most happy to hear. That’s right, the rumor mill of the Ton has been swirlling for quite some time on who will join diamonds of the season: Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), in the upcoming season of Bridgerton, and this author can finally unveil that the series may well have just found its Mrs. Crabtree in one Susan Brown (Game of Thrones).

On the website for Brown’s talent management, Hamilton Hodell, her credits include the role of the beloved Mrs. Crabtree under Bridgerton. Dedicated readers of Julia Quinn‘s novels will immediately recognize Mrs. Crabtree as an indirect catalyst in Benophie’s romance. She is a governess at Sophie’s childhood home and ultimately plays a key role in bringing the pair together in The Viscount Who Loved Me.

In the book, when Benedict is searching for Sophie after he is unable to forget their encounter at his mother’s masquerade ball, Mrs. Crabtree is imperative in helping Sophie conceal her identity — given her lower social standing, she would be in big trouble if she were to be discovered at the ball. Later on, she is one of the few people who becomes aware of the pair’s relationship and supports Sophie by continuing to conceal her true identity. Brown has not yet been formally announced as the latest cast member added to the line-up.

What Is Season 4 of ‘Bridgerton’ About?

The casting news comes just days after eager audiences were given a brief teaser at the table read for season four which offered a look at the cast coming together in preparation for the series. The story is set to spotlight Benedict for the first time, who the audience will know is the most free-spirited of the Bridgerton brothers, after declaring himself on a journey of self-discovery and seemingly abandoning love, his world is toppled upside down when he encounters a Lady in Silver — one Sophie Baek — under a mask at his mother’s ball. Both guarded with their own skeletons lurking in the closet, the pair share an instantaneous connection that pulls them together despite their differing social standings — something the ton is known to not see favorably.
