Marvel Studios might finally explore the missing MCU story audiences have been waiting five years for, as a new update has seemingly confirmed when Daredevil: Born Again is set in the MCU’s timeline. Daredevil: Born Again is set to continue the story of Netflix’s Daredevil series in the Defenders Saga. The Phase 5 series will pick up in the wake of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk striking a deal, Murdock, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page establishing a new firm, and Benjamin Poindexter being enhanced into Bullseye in Daredevil season 3’s intense finale.
Since Daredevil: Born Again was first confirmed to be in development in May 2022, there has been a question about when the series will take place in the MCU’s official timeline. Theories have suggested Born Again might pick up immediately after Daredevil season 3, or could perhaps be set entirely during Avengers: Endgame’s five-year-long Blip, or could be set in the present day of the MCU, which is in 2026 following Agatha All Along. One Daredevil: Born Again actor might have just put these theories to rest, and this could be huge for the MCU.
Wilson Bethel Has Confirmed A Five-Year Gap Between Daredevil Season 3 & Born Again
Daredevil: Born Again Picks Up Five Years After Daredevil Season 3
While speaking at 2024’s Fan Expo San Francisco, returning Daredevil actor Wilson Bethel, who played Bullseye in Daredevil season 3 and is reprising the role in Born Again, seemed to confirm the upcoming series’ timeline (via Collider).Bethel notes that it was an interesting experience “stepping back after five years where Born Again will pick up with that amount of time having transpired,” clarifying, “it picks up five years later.” Given this information, the timeline placement of Daredevil: Born Again can easily be deduced, and this makes the show’s upcoming storyline even more exciting.
So there’s kind of like this funny thing stepping back after five years where
Born Again
will pick up with that amount of time having transpired. The show doesn’t pick up the day after we last saw it. It picks up five years later. And so, in theory, these are characters who have all lived five years of life and all of the twists and turns that you take in the meantime. So whether or not even those stories are necessarily on-screen, there’s just that little extra bit of life in there, which I think is… as an actor, it gives you an opportunity to bring whatever your own journey has been in that time, and they get sort of a little longer in the tooth.
Daredevil’s Five-Year Gap Sets Born Again Roughly In 2023
Daredevil Season 3 Took Place In 2017/18
Daredevil kicked off on Netflix in 2015, and ran for three seasons releasing in 2015, 2016 and 2018, respectively. Charlie Cox also portrayed Matt Murdock’s Daredevil in 2017’s The Defenders, all of which were recently folded into the MCU’s official timeline on Disney+. Marvel Studios implanted Daredevil season 3 just before 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, which is seemingly set in 2018, taking place only moments before the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War. This means that Daredevil season 3 took place in late 2017and early 2018, so Daredevil: Born Again will be set in 2023.

2023 was a massive year in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with several major events taking place, including much of the Avengers: Endgame and Phase 4.
2023 is an important year in the MCU, as the majority of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame was set during 2023. 2023 marked the end of the Blip and the return of everyone killed by Thanos five years earlier, so setting Born Again in 2023 could finally see Marvel Studios explore the Blip from a street-level point of view. Many have been calling for the Blip to be explored in more detail since Avengers: Endgame, as this period was only briefly seen before the Avengers embarked on the Time Heist, and Daredevil: Born Again may be about to tackle this huge story.
Why Daredevil Is The Perfect Character To Reveal More About The Blip
Matt Murdock’s Perspective On The Blip Needs To Be Seen
Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock has a unique perspective on the world at the best of times, as he is a blind man with enhanced senses who operates as a vigilante who many believe can see perfectly. The lack of eyesight but heightened other senses would have surely given Murdock a strange and harrowing view of the Blip, so Born Again exploring this story is very exciting. The Avengers very quickly banded together and set out on the Time Heist in Endgame, but Daredevil: Born Again is perfectly primed to reveal more about society and politics during the Blip.

Daredevil is a fan-favorite character in the MCU, particularly Charlie Cox’s iteration. It was thrilling to see Cox reprise the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo, and the latter may have teased Daredevil’s activities in taking on Kingpin’s forces during the Blip, as he fought Maya Lopez in full costume. The possibilities of exploring the Blip from Matt Murdock’s street-level perspective are endless, which raises excitement ten-fold for March 2025’s upcoming Daredevil: Born Again.

After Charlie Cox’s cameo appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and supporting role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Daredevil: Born Again gives Matt Murdock his first show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Daredevil: Born Again, composed of 18 episodes, serves as the spiritual successor to Netflix’s three-season Daredevil series and adapts its characters to the MCU’s main continuity while establishing a new beginning for the superhero lawyer.
