Hasbro unveils their Star Wars Black Series Force FX Elite Baylan Skoll Lightsaber, which is inspired by the Ahsoka series. Making his debut in the premiere of the 2023 Disney+ series, the late Ray Stevenson portrayed Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi who became a mercenary in the wake of Order 66. Together with padawan Shin Hati (Ivana Sakhno), the pair of rogue Jedi aid in Morgan Elsbeth’s (Diana Lee Inosanto) search for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), though Baylan has grander aspirations about their journey.

After making its debut in a lethal display of power against a helpless New Republic crew, Baylan Skoll’s unique lightsaber has joined Hasbro’s The Black Series Force FX Elite Lightsaber line, as revealed in the Star Wars: Gift The Galaxy promotional program.

The highly-detailed replica was made to capture the appearance of the prop from Ahsoka, and features a stand similar to those found in previous releases of the Force FX Elite line, with a removable blade that matches the oversized length of Baylan’s in-universe saber, allowing it to be displayed while both ignited and inactive.

Furthermore, as with other items in the line, the lightsaber blade is built with advanced LEDs that not only capture the unique orange glow of Baylan’s blade, but can replicate a number of scenarios with a swing or push of a button, from clashing with objects to deflecting blaster bolts and slicing through thick starship bulkheads and security doors. When paired with the onboard speaker’s various FX, the full lightsaber is a worthy addition to the line and priced at $249.99. Set to release in spring 2025 on Hasbro Pulse and other participating retailers, the collectible is available for pre-order starting on November 20 at 1pm ET.

What Baylan’s Orange Lightsaber Model Means For Star Wars

Baylan’s Lightsaber Color Is A Striking New Element To Canon

As with other lightsabers across the Star Wars franchise, Baylan’s blade is a device that further adds to his character. Like how red blades signify a character who has embraced the dark side, and how Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) final yellow lightsaber signifies a new potential golden age for the Jedi Order, Baylan’s blade signifies his personal quest that Ahsoka season 1 began to tease.

Kyber may be the most famous substance used to power a lightsaber, but there are many other gems and jewels that can channel its power as well.

After witnessing the fall of the Jedi Order, Baylan came to see the path as flawed, but did not fall to the dark side as many others before him had, like Anakin (Hayden Christensen). Instead, Baylan held onto several Jedi values, guided Shin with their teachings, and held respect for those who survived, though he believed his and his apprentice’s fates lay with something greater than the Order on Peridea. As such, Baylan’s blade color emphasizes his ambiguous nature in the universe.

Our Take On The Significance Of Baylan’s Lightsaber

Baylan Is A Deadly Fighter Unlike Any Other

Baylan Skoll watches Shin Hati pursue Sabine and Ezra in Ahsoka episode 7.

Between his mysterious motives, deadly fighting prowess, and a memorable portrayal by the late Stevenson, Baylan Skoll has firmly established himself as a highlight of Ahsoka’s cast. Not only does his orange lightsaber blade emphasize his character, but his fighting style is unique among the duelists seen throughout Star Wars‘ movie and television productions. With its greater size and length, Baylan’s fighting style evokes that of broadsword wielders, using heavy blows to his advantage against opponents.

Baylan Skoll’s lightsaber is a unique opportunity for Star Wars. Could these weapons be made with other materials? What does that mean for the Jedi?

Though the unfortunate passing of Stevenson in 2023 leaves Baylan’s presence in future seasons of Ahsoka uncertain, season 1’s onslaught on the Vesper and duel on Seatos with Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) left a memorable impression. As such, Hasbro’s Force FX Elite replica will be a highly desirable item for all lightsaber enthusiasts. It is also a fitting tribute to Stevenson’s Ahsoka role, as it was memorable enough to warrant an incredible collector’s item.
