Andy Garcia made an appearance in Landman’s season 1 finale, providing one of the most exciting surprises in the series. Taylor Sheridan’s TV shows are known for their star-studded casts, be it Kevin Costner, Sylvester Stallone, or the great Harrison Ford. His latest series had the pleasure of a cast led by famous names like Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm, offering consistently strong acting to embellish his highly entertaining writing style. Andy Garcia joining in at the last moment only piles on an already unbelievable television lineup.
Andy Garcia was announced as being part of Landman’s cast back in early 2024, but it became confusing as the series progressed through nine episodes without an appearance from the iconic film star. His vague character description in Deadline’s initial report didn’t suggest much, but after a few episodes, it was enough to assume he was either another oil magnate or a Cartel drug lord. Of course, with Landman season 1’s ending in mind, audiences now know the latter to be true, and the episode set up a thrilling dynamic for a hopeful second season.

Taylor Sheridan Executed A Top-Notch Villain Reveal
Actor Alex Meraz put on a fun and intimidating performance as the low-level Cartel boss, Jiminez, providing an antagonizing presence for Landman’s first season. However, an actor like Billy Bob Thornton needs a movie star villain of his caliber to face off with, and Andy Garcia was the perfect choice. The 68-year-old star is no stranger to the crime genre, having most notably performed in films like The Godfather Part III and The Untouchables. For any fan of the genre, having him show up as a wise, veteran drug lord was a terrific experience.

What Tommy Seeing Another Coyote In Landman’s Season 1 Finale Means
Landman’s season 1 finale ended with yet another coyote appearing. Here’s what it means for Tommy’s story, especially after what happened.
Everything seemed dark for Tommy Norris in the show’s closing moments, with him tied up and being tortured. Without a second season officially announced, it wouldn’t have been impossible for Taylor Sheridan to end the series there, not unlike what he did with his Western saga, 1883. But Tommy was saved by gunshots, and with no characters in the series who could plausibly save him, the only way to execute a successful last-minute plot twist was to deliver audiences a face they would recognize.
Andy Garcia Gives Landman More Star Power After Jon Hamm’s Exit
Andy Garcia Has An Unbelievable Acting Resume Spanning Decades
With Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller reaching an unfortunate fate in Landman season 1, the series is down one of its biggest stars. Jon Hamm hasn’t made a habit of committing long-term to shows after doing his time on Mad Men, so it’s no surprise to see him clock out. However, the absence of Hamm in season 2 will mean one less all-star name in the opening credits, and Andy Garcia is the perfect person to replace him.
Garcia has had plenty of powerful movie roles, but this is the first time in years that he’ll get to really show how fun he is to watch.
While Garcia has always contributed excellent work, his recent filmography hasn’t been the best in his career, and Taylor Sheridan has done excellent at giving veteran movie stars a chance to show they still have chops. Actors like Sylvester Stallone, Ali Larter, and Cole Hauser have had opportunities to demonstrate shades of their talent that none of their previous projects had allowed for. Garcia has had plenty of powerful movie roles, but this is the first time in years that he’ll get to really show how fun he is to watch.
What To Expect From Gallino In Landman Season 2
Gallino Is Landman’s Newest Power Player
First, it should be mentioned that Landman hasn’t specifically been renewed for a second season just yet. Given how popular the show has been and how instrumental Taylor Sheridan is to Paramount+, it’s doubtful they’d reject him if he wanted to pursue more. That being said, it’s all speculation until there’s official confirmation. As for Gallino, Andy Garcia’s character has formed a tentative working relationship with Tommy, who will be stepping into the president role at M-Tex in Monty’s absence. On the matter of Gallino’s character, Billy Bob Thornton told Variety the following:
“Tommy’s dealing with someone now who is really smart. The other guys were hired to work for him, but now Tommy’s talking to the man himself. There are advantages and disadvantages to that. Since he is so smart, who knows what Tommy is going to get tricked into?”
Audiences also know that Tommy is going to be taking a massive gamble in the oil industry, and the Cartel could lend some favors. Gallino mentioned that he’d like to pursue oil, believing his drug industry to be dying out. With that in mind, he could offer Tommy a helping hand in a moment of extreme pressure, essentially forcing Tommy into a deal with the devil. Landman season 2 should be exciting, with hopefully more Andy Garcia to come.
