Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #4
After 41 years, Star Wars is showing just how powerful Luke Skywalker was in the aftermath of the original trilogy. As seen in Marvel’s new Battle of Jakku series, Luke Skywalker and his fellow Rebels have been working to fight the fractured Empire as the Rebel Alliance becomes the New Republic. This includes major conflicts with a dark side cult as well as Moff Adelhard and his Iron Blockade, providing Luke with the perfect means to display his impressive Jedi skills when he was truly in his prime.
As seen in the new Star Wars: Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #4 from Alex Segura and Leonard Kirk, Luke Skywalker infiltrates Adelhard’s Iron Blockade to save a group of captured Rebels who’d been sent to investigate the Moff’s hold over the Anoat sector (one of these Rebels being Poe Dameron’s father). Not only does Luke Skywalker fight a brand-new Inquisitor, but he also has a showdown with Adelhard himself, taking out his forces with very little effort (and one of the most impressive Star Wars disses of all time):
Thoroughly defeating Adelhard, it’s quite impressive to see Luke Skywalker absolutely in his prime, especially when considering that the sequel trilogy had Luke very diminished and largely removed from the galaxy following the loss of his Jedi academy and Ben Solo’s corruption to the dark side.

Mandalorian Season 2 Was Just The Tip Of The Iceberg
The possibilities of what Luke Skywalker was fully capable of following the events of the original trilogy have been shown before Insurgency Rising. After all, one of the most iconic moments in Star Wars television will always be the finale of The Mandalorian season 2 where Luke similarly saves Grogu from Moff Gideon’s Darktroopers. Taking out the entire legion of dark droids using a combination of his iconic green lightsaber and the Force itself, Luke was shown as a true force to be reckoned with.

Likewise, readers are now seeing even more of Luke Skywalker in his prime thanks to Insurgency Rising. Expanding on Luke’s mission to Pillio to retrieve a Jedi star compass, the first issues of Insurgency Rising saw Luke dueling with the dark side cult known as the Acolytes of the Beyond. However, this final issue of Insurgency Rising is where Luke truly shines as an accomplished and highly skilled Jedi Knight.

Dueling An Inquisitor Before Defeating Moff Adelhard
Beginning by dueling the Acolytes’ Reyna Oskure who’d been trying to show Adelhard the true power of the Force, Luke easily defeats the long-lived Anzanti who’d patterned herself after the Imperial Inquisitors of old. While she did wield a red lightsaber of her own, Luke Skywalker quickly saw the truth that she was an imposter and quickly disarmed the false Inquisitor. He then faced Moff Adelhard directly at the end of this final issue.

Despite having Luke Skywalker surrounded by multiple squads of stormtroopers, the Jedi Knight moves through the troopers as if they’re nothing. Likewise, he also cut the platform Adelhard was standing on out from under him, providing Luke with enough time to rejoin his fellow rebels and escape the Star Destroyer that was under fire by the New Republic. While the final page of Insurgency Rising #4 does confirm that Adelhard survived and intends to take the Force far more seriously, it certainly doesn’t lessen Luke Skywalker’s impressive victory.

There’s More Adventures (And Dangers) Still To Come
While Battle of Jakku’s first chapter may be complete following this issue, there’s still Republic Under Siege and Last Stand. With any luck, this means that Luke Skywalker’s adventures in the immediate aftermath of Return of the Jedi have only just begun. Likewise, Luke himself seems fairly confident that he hasn’t seen the last of Moff Adelhard, and a rematch does feel quite likely. At any rate, it’s very exciting to see that Star Wars is finally offering a new wealth of stories starring Luke Skywalker when he was in his prime.
