One Piece Season 2 Is All But Confirmed To Reveal More About A Fan-Favorite Villain That The Manga Ever Did

One Piece season 2 will see the live-action debut of Sir Crocodile, and the Netflix show is about to show more of him than the manga or the anime ever did. After covering the East Blue saga while introducing each of the five core Straw Hat pirates, Netflix’s One Piece is now heading for the Grand Line. Whereas the first season was relatively low-stakes up until the fight against Arlong, One Piece season 2 will see deadly pirates and bounty hunters on every island now that Luffy and his friends are sailing for the New World.

The Grand Line is the most treacherous stretch of ocean in the world from which not many come back to tell the tale. This is the perfect setup for Netflix’s One Piece to always raise the stakes, with each season feeling bigger than the previous one. So far, only season 2 has been officially confirmed by Netflix. However, given that the Arabasta Saga won’t be completed in season 2, Netflix’s One Piece will likely return for a third season too. Interestingly, Crocodile is confirmed for season 2, even though the Arabasta arc won’t be covered yet.

One Piece Is Expected To Show What Crocodile Was Up To Before The Arabasta Arc

Crocodile Will Be In One Piece Season 2, Even Though It Won’t Cover Arabasta

The fact that Joe Manganiello has been cast and announced as Crocodile for One Piece season 2 even though Mr. 0 only properly appears during the Arabasta arc strongly suggests that we will see more of the villain compared to the source material. We can only assume that Manganiello has a significant amount of screen time in season 2 considering that his casting has already been officially announced, meaning Crocodile will be around even before the events of the Arabasta happen. In other words, we might see what Mr. 0 was up to while Princess Vivi was looking for help.

Crocodile’s presence is felt right from the start of the Arabasta saga, particularly after the Straw Hats meet Miss Wednesday during the Whisky Peak arc. However, apart from the phone call between Sanji and the leader of Baroque Works, One Piece’s heroes only really run into Crocodile during the Arabasta arc. For Manganiello’s character to have a significant presence in season 2, Netflix’s One Piece will have to spend time with Crocodile and show moments that happened “offscreen” during the manga. This includes, for example, his reaction to Mr. 3’s defeat.

One Piece Season 2 Can Show Parts Of The Story From Crocodile’s Perspective

One of the most interesting things about Crocodile is that he is essentially a shadow during most of the Arabasta arc – a presence that is felt throughout the story but doesn’t fully materialize until the saga’s end. While Princess Vivi knows who Crocodile is and the threat that he represents to the Kingdom of Arabasta and the rest of the world, Luffy and the others have no idea who this rogue Warlord is. This is why the Straw Hats shouldn’t run into Crocodile until season 3.

Interestingly, Netflix has so far avoided referring to Joe Manganiello’s character as “Crocodile.” Instead, the villain has only been referred to as “Mr. 0,” which is Crocodile’s Baroque Works designation. This suggests that the villain will indeed be a shadowy figure in season 2 and that most of the characters will initially not know who he is and why he is so dangerous. However, that doesn’t mean Manganiello’s Crocodile can’t appear in season 2. In fact, it would be interesting to see parts of the Arabasta saga from Crocodile’s point of view.

Crocodile’s Backstory & Goals Make Him One Of One Piece’s Best Villains

Crocodile is a fascinating character who also happens to be incredibly powerful. By splitting the Arabasta saga into two seasons, Netflix’s One Piece has the chance to spend a lot more time with the leader of Baroque Works than the manga or the anime ever did. Granted, Crocodile should not be used that much in season 2, as the character is supposed to be a mysterious threat that only materializes later. Still, there is room for One Piece season 2 to play with Crocodile without ruining his mystique.

The cast of One Piece season 2 includes a lot of new characters, from allies to villains who Luffy and his Straw Hat pirates will run into.

Netflix’s One Piece could also include flashbacks to Crocodile’s past, including but not limited to when he recruited Nico Robin for Baroque Works, or when he took over Arabasta. Crocodile has a very interesting backstory that explains who he is and what he wants, and while some of it wasn’t revealed until much later in One Piece, this could already be incorporated into Joe Manganiello’s version of the character.
