Clint Eastwood may first have been known as an actor, due in part to his starring roles in Westerns, including the iconic Dollars trilogy, but he’s now just as well known for his directing. Eastwood’s first directing gig was Play Misty for Me in 1971, and he followed that film up with others like High Plains Drifter (1973), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), Heartbreak Ridge (1986), and, of course, Unforgiven (1992).
Eastwood continued to appear in films throughout the 2000s, but the 2010s saw his career shift to one more focused on directing. He gave audiences films like American Sniper (2014), Sully (2016), and Richard Jewell (2019), while also doing double duty as star and director in The Mule (2018) and Cry Macho (2021). At 94 years old, most in Hollywood would be long retired, but Eastwood put out yet another film this year, and it’s been a success with critics and audiences.
Juror #2 Dominates VOD Charts After A Controversial Release
The Film Has Clint Eastwood’s Best Reviews In Years
After a shortened theatrical window, Juror #2 is a top performing film on VOD. Eastwood’s latest movie is a legal thriller starring Nicholas Hoult as Justin Kemp, a man serving on the jury of a murder case who comes to realize he may actually be culpable for the victim’s death. Despite the Juror #2 reviews being largely positive across the board from critics, resulting in a strong 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film was only given a limited theatrical release in the U.S. before going straight to VOD on December 3.
New data from IndieWire now reveals that Juror #2 is making waves on digital platforms, ranking first place on both iTunes and Fandango at Home. On iTunes for December 9, the Eastwood film ranks above How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Conclave, and The Substance, while on Fandango at Home for December 2 – 8, it beats Elevation, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Wild Robot. What Juror #2’s VOD Performance Means For The Film
Eastwood’s Film Deserved A Proper Release
Official domestic box office numbers for Juror #2 haven’t been reported, but the shortened run seemingly earned it less than $500,000. Internationally, however, the movie actually performed quite well, and it’s total overseas sits at $18 million, with France alone contributing about $10 million of this. The international box office figures combined with the VOD performance certainly suggest that Juror #2 deserved of a proper theatrical release in the U.S. instead of the odd strategy Warner Bros. opted for.
