Warning: The following contains major SPOILERS for Cross season 1!Cross show creator Ben Watkins teases the new killer to come in season 2. The series follows Aldis Hodge’s titular detective, and sees him solving a series of murders on top of finding out who has been targeting his family. Prime Video has already given the show a green light for season 2, even before Cross became the best-reviewed version of the James Patterson character. With Ryan Eggold’s Ed Ramsey, aka Fanboy, being put behind bars, and the truth behind his wife’s murder coming into light, season 1 tied up the majority of its events neatly.

Cross show creator, Ben Watkins, confirms that season 2 will feature a new killer in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. The show will follow the format of season 1, where each season will stand on its own by focusing on a new killer while building on the existing relationships and subplots in Cross’s world. Watkins also explains that this would give each season a different feel and look that’s “fun and refreshing.” Check out what he said below:

It’s the show that we made in season 1, and we get to build on those relationships, but when we start getting into the world of the killer, it feels and looks different in a way that is fun and refreshing. It livens it up.

What This Means For Cross Season 2

The Show Will Be A Mix Of Old & New As It Maintains Continuity

By the time season 1 finishes, Alex Cross had gone full cycle, emotionally and personally. Our Take On Cross Season 2

Season 2 Is Highly Anticipated

There are many burning questions that Cross needs to answer in season 2. Since Miss Nancy isn’t the person who pulled the trigger on Maria, season 2’s new killer could be the one we didn’t get to meet in season 1. The show creator’s comment leaves all possibilities on the table. With Johnny Ray Gill’s Bobby Trey also working out a deal with Special Agent Kayla Craig, the ex-cop turned mercenary might come back sooner than fans would expect. For now, Cross needs to focus on his own healing, but when the time comes, he’ll have to reopen the old case.

Whether the answers will be in the next season is unknown, but with a strong start like Cross season 1, the future of the show is very bright. The Prime Video police procedural has already been hailed by some as the best Alex Cross adaptation so far. There’s already a lot to look forward to in season 2, and a mysterious new killer certainly makes the next season even more intriguing.
