Detailed fan art compares the size and scale of 18 dragons from House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. While only three dragons–Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion–are in Game of Thrones, there are far more dragons in the prequel series. From Vhagar to Caraxes, there is no shortage of dragons in House of the Dragon as the Targaryens largely wage their civil war for the Iron Throne by riding the formidable, intelligent, and unparalleled creatures that are the symbol of their house.
On Instagram, Mikel Rekondo shared his fan art that showcases the unique size and scale of 18 dragons from George R.R. Martin’s universe. The first image shows all 18 dragons, which helps to highlight similarities and differences between their various sizes and appearances. Each dragon is then individually featured in the images that follow, from Balerion the Black Dread to Moondancer, before the final image showing both Arrax and Vermax. There is even a depiction of the White Walker version of Viserion. Check out the art below:
What This Means For House Of The Dragon
Each Dragon Is Unique
While House of the Dragon is not able to live up to Game of Thrones in certain respects, one of the ways that the prequel does surpass its predecessor is the wider range of dragons that are featured. Rekondo’s impressive art provides a fascinating look at dragons who lived before, during, and after the events of House of the Dragon in stunning detail. Given the many storylines that Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon juggle, it is refreshing to take a moment to slow down and observe each dragon’s appearance in more depth.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Ending Explained: What Happens Next?
House of the Dragon season 2’s finale brings with it some major reveals and moments, and sets up even bigger things to come in season 3.
Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar are the largest dragons in the Game of Thrones universe, which is easier to appreciate when seeing them visually depicted individually and in contrast with the other dragons. Vhagar’s size has been an important plot point in House of the Dragon and has helped the Greens maintain control of the Iron Throne for now. However, after the dragonseed developments in season 2, even Vhagar’s size may not be enough to contend with the fact that the Blacks now have more dragons on their side.
Our Take On The Fan Art
It Makes House Of The Dragon Season 3 An Even More Exciting Prospect
As the wait for House of the Dragon season 3 continues, it is rewarding to see the enthusiasm for the series kept alive through fan art such as this. As fearsome as Drogon is in Game of Thrones, the art is a reminder that he is much smaller than the likes of Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar. In addition to this reminder, the art makes me even more excited to see more of these dragons in action during House of the Dragon season 3, especially now that several of them have only recently acquired riders in the series.
